With the 360's and PS3's consoles being so graphically intense, can they go any furthur? I'm not sure, therefore I believe that the companies might take a step back from this graphics race, and will follow Nintendo in trying to innovate.

I remember a certain study done not long ago that Nintendo used against Microsoft and Sony when they were critisised for having a low-spec console. I can't remember a source for it (I found it on Newsvine (http://www.newsvine.com/)) but basically it says the better the graphics in something are, the more you notice problems.

At this point the difference that can be perceived by the naked eye is really getting to be miniscule. I'm not so swayed by the graphics factor anymore. It's not like we're talking the difference between sprites and fully rendered characters, you know? So I'm with you on the innovation point. :)

I believe that after the Wii Microsoft and Sony will work on innovation and Nintendo will work on the graphics.

I can't see it happening personally. Microsoft and Sony have powerful contacts in the tech industry and they can up the specs as much as they want. It's not that easy for Nintendo, as they're moving out of their 'game' trying to compete. If anything is to happen graphic wise, I think we'll see improvements to technology, but vaster improvements in actually creating the games. Nintendo patented displacement mapping not too long ago, and I think it's the start of something that could be great.
