View Full Version : Do you think Super Smash Bros should use the Wiimote?

Movement

Control stick is used for movement.

To jump, move nunchuck in a fast upward motion, or press down on the control pad. Whether you want to move the nunchuck up or just press the button should be an option that you can change.

Dodges: move nunchuck to the right to roll right, to the left to roll left, and down to dodge in place. While in the air, up, down, left, and right movements will cause air dodges in that direction. The momentum of your movement will cause your character to move different amounts during the air dodge.

Attacks

Normal and Smash attacks are done by pressing the A button. The direction of the attack depends on the direction you are currently pointing. To compare to the Gamecube controls, pointing the wiimote forward and pressing A would be equivalent to pressing A without tilting the control stick. So if you point the wiimote slightly to the right and tap A, your character would attack to the right. If you point the wiimote slightly towards the floor and then hold and release A, your character would do a smash attack downward. This means that you wouldn’t need to wildly swing the wiimote around, you simply point in the direction you want to attack and press the A button (or as mentioned below, the B button).

Special attacks would work in the same fashion, except with the B button.

Miscellaneous

To grab, you press the Z button on the nunchuck.

To shield, you press the C button on the nunchuck.

Items are interacted with in the same way as Melee, where A picks up/uses items and the grab button (Z) throws or drops unwanted items.

I know the wiimote won’t be used in Super Smash Bros. Brawl, but I wanted to give an example of a way that it could be. In my opinion, it was a bad idea to continue to use the Gamecube style controls since the Wii is supposed to be about change, instead of just new games with a few interesting features and better graphics. I think that my control scheme would be more intuitive since you (if you are nearby) could actually point at the enemy you wanted to attack and press A. Also, since you are using the wiimote, you can also use it for other new attacks, like (for example) an item that allows you to temporarily control a small onscreen sword that you can move anywhere in the screen and slash at people for small amounts of damage. I think this would be more entertaining, and you also wouldn’t have to have extra controllers besides wiimote/nunchuck setups.
