Who do you think will win this battle? I think HD-DVD will because people will go in the shop and think I have a HDTV, my Xbox 360 plays High Def so I figure I need a HD-DVD, also I don't think sony learned from there mistake when they chose the opposite of the VCR (What it was slips my mind) and the UMD.

BetaMax?

Blu-Ray will probably end up winning, but HD-DVD would be more fair. If I remember rightly, Sony want the rights so that anytime anyone ever makes or distributes a Blu-Ray DVD, they have to pay 'royalties' to Sony. That's their real game.

Beta, Yup thats what I thought too.

Well Sony seemed to think that UMD's would be the next DVD's, Wrong. I think that they will lose this again.

In a realistic world, both will lose.

It's too soon. We've only just come across the wonders of going completely over to DVD. Loads of people are ditching their VCR's and watching and recording DVD's. Now we're being told that the DVD is old and that we need to upgrade for HDTV? Who here actually has a HD ready television?

If you ask me, they're thinking way too soon into the future, and making way too big a deal out of this. I'd be happy to say leave it for a few years and push a REAL upgrade in technology. Something like the HVD by Panasonic.

QFE I'm not about ready (money-wise) to be buying an HDTV, better yet, a Blu-Ray player.
