What would have happened to the status or game supply if Microsoft had decided to realease a handheld. Would the Ds have taken a backseat or would the Microsoft handheld have been the star? Intresting thought though eh

There was something about that in Electronic Gaming Monthly recently. I don't know...I don't think Microsoft is ready to enter the handheld market yet. Nintendo clearly dominates it.

Nintendo dominated the console market too at one time. That didn't last long.

Everyone desperately wants to see Microsoft enter the handheld market, and the 'Zune' was the quickest way for everyone to reopen the argument. I agree that MS would need to plan a lot to overthrow Nintendo, but I think it could be done if they poured more money into it.

As far as the industry goes, Nintendo are like a virus to Sony and Microsoft. They pour money to eliminate them from the competition, but Nintendo, no matter how poorly they do sales wise always make a profit and stick to the game with at least a few developers loyal. The simple fact is that Sony and Microsoft just can't keep losing money on hardware. This is why I can't honestly see Microsoft going into the handheld gaming industry.

Plus, we all know what happened to the PSP.

Nintendo do dominate the market but could the downfall of the PSP show that handheld arn't all their cracked up to be.

Not anymore. Nintendo are third place console wise, and whilst they're still market leader in handheld sales and support the PSP is still around and is still selling. I wouldn't call Nintendo dominant anymore to be honest.
