After seeing the wi-fi thread i wondered what your views were on the touch screen. Was it really neccesary and what advantages do you feel it brings over plain controls.

I think having the touch screen makes some games work a lot better, imagine playing Nintendogs on a PSP, it just wouldn't work, same with Wario World Touch. I think this touch screen has enabled Nintendo to create great unique games instead of having downgraded console games (PSP).

I think the touch screen just brings another flavor to our gaming lives. Like the EyeToy did so many moons ago or long before that, with the light gun for the NES.
If we keep getting the same gameplay styles churned out the same way, gaming gets old. We must have new experiences and thus the touch screen is one of those experiences.

In my previous job I worked a lot with touch screen technology and was really incredulous that Nintendo was creating a system with a touch screen. I thought it was a joke. I have to say I was truly amazed with what they came out with and I love it. The technology, in terms of touch screen, is awesome.

I'm going to go against the grain on this one and say the touch screen isn't such a good feature.

It has great potential, and is put into great use. However, Nintendo pretty much pushed innovation onto developers. Whilst this isn't a bad thing there's nothing stopping these developers from just not using it. You'll find LOADS of games where it's only used for things like maps and the such. Whilst it's good for the 'duplicate' screen, the 'touch' screen is rarely used. I'd like to challenge someone to give me ten Nintendo DS games which use the touch screen well in a way that would give them a definitive benefit over a game without a touch screen.
