View Full Version : DS Lite battery life a bad thing?

I'm so sick of being deeply engrossed in a game of Advance Wars DS, usually for hours at a time, only to lose all of my progress because the battery goes dead. Let me explain why this happens:

First--With the extended battery life I have grown complacent. I no longer worry about the battery, which means that I seldom check what color the light is on the Lite. When I have been playing the system for 15+ hours without a recharge (not all at once, of course), the last thing I think about is looking for a tiny red light to tell me the battery is low (which brings me to my second gripe).

Second--Why is there no in-game warning to tell me the battery is low? In Animal Crossing WW the game notifies me when the battery light switches to red, giving me plenty of time to save the game. Why can I get no such courtesy in AWDS? Every game should include this warning system to prevent what has happened to me 3 times now.

I just lost an hour's worth of play time and I hadn't saved the game since the start of the level. I know I could solve this problem by being more aware and also by saving more often, but the point is that I shouldn't have to. I should be able to enjoy my games without worrying how much the longer the battery will last. The game should just tell me.

To be fair, the DS has done great stuff with the battery life deal. Games with higher quality simply use more juice.

I agree that games should tell you, or at least have it built into the firmware to just warn you mid-game. However, it's a developer decision to do so, and it's something I really can't see all developers utilising.

Oh I agree, the battery is awesome, but I just wish they could make it more obvious that it is going to die any second.
