Where do you think the Nintendo gamecube went wrong?

I feel the gamecube went wrong because it tried to beat the Xbox and the PS2 in the graphics world and because there console wasn't as good, they had nothing really to fall back on, it is a shame but I think they learnt a lot from the Gamecube which has made them think of new ways to keep it cheap but good.

i think you said it exactly right, it tried to compete in a market with better consoles graphic wise and it had nothing else that the others didn't... apart from yoshi :p.

Gamecube is such a different console to the other two. The games are directed to a very different audience, which is good, but they didn't have enough of everything else.

It was a multi-player console too in many ways... Maybe that pitted its downfall?

A wider range of games for the gamecube would have helped. The graphics were just no were near as good as the PS2's graphics. Hopfully they have learnred from this.

I think the GC suffered because of, as others have said, a lack of games. Most of the good GC games are party based games, like Mario Party, Mario Kart, Wario Ware, etc.
Or strategy/RPG, like Harvest Moon and Animal Crossing.
RE4 was a breath of fresh air for the GC, for me personally.

I disagree somewhat.

The Gamecube had more than enough power to put itself up against the graphical might of the Xbox and PS2. The new Zelda shows that it can be done. I think it's just mainly down to Nintendo's arrogence in the market again. They did realise they can't compete with tech specs, but they offered little.

The main factor had to be the lack of third-party support. Look at the best games on the Gamecube. Next to all Nintendo games no doubt. The money was with PS2 and Xbox, so developers went there. This is exactly why the Wii is like it is. Nintendo are making an attempt (maybe a last one) to finally drag developers back to Nintendo and bringing something other than flashy graphics to gaming.

I was never really interested in the game cube, it was over hyped and they were just trying too hard to overrule the othjer consoles. Call me oldfashioned but I still like my PS2.
